Why do we have the moral values that we do?
Why do we behave in the ways that we do?
What are the limits of our self-understanding?
To what extent are our values or identities open to refashioning?
My work focuses on how our moral values shape our identities. I explore how our values developed, and how—while they often work to address certain needs—these values can also perpetuate our self-misunderstandings. In showing how our values come to be through socio-political struggles, disputes, as well as victories my work studies how we might ultimately free ourselves from the more pernicious prescriptions of our values.
