ABOUT

Allison Merrick, Ph.D., Psy.D., R.P., is a Professor, Philosopher, and Psychoanalyst. Dr. Merrick is Professor of Philosophy at California State University, San Marcos, and a trained Research Psychoanalyst with a clinical private practice.  

 

Dr. Merrick is the author of the forthcoming book Nietzsche on the Methods and Aims of Philosophy: The Seal of Liberation (Cambridge University Press) and the co-editor of Nietzsche and Politicized Identities (State University of New York Press, 2024). As a researcher, Merrick is interested in how moral values shape self-understanding, particularly how those values can empower and enliven or constrain and deaden us. Merrick's work has been published in the European Journal of Philosophy, Journal of Nietzsche Studies, Psychoanalytic Inquiry, and elsewhere. Merrick is on the Steering Committee of the North American Nietzsche Society and the Friedrich Nietzsche Society.

 

Merrick received a B.A. in History and Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine, a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Southampton, U.K., and a Psy.D. as well as clinical training from the Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis, Los Angeles.

 

Merrick is currently working on a short book Nietzsche on Genealogy, which will also be published by Cambridge University Press as part of their Cambridge Elements series.
